A Song of Love and Gratitude

Daily Devotional – Thursday, August 21, 2025
I will love You, O LORD, my strength.
Psalms 18:1 (NKJV)

Psalm 18 is David’s heartfelt song of love and gratitude to God. For years, he lived like a fugitive, running from King Saul, hiding out in caves, and never knowing who he could trust. Yet through it all, God protected him and eventually gave him victory and peace.

I Will Love You

When that season of fear finally ended, David did not just celebrate his freedom. He poured out his gratitude in worship. His first words were not about the battles he fought, but about his love for the God who carried him through it all.

David starts this psalm with a simple but powerful phrase: “I love You, Lord.” Before he discusses his struggles or victories, he leads with love. That says a lot. His relationship with God was rooted in genuine affection.

Then David adds, “my strength.” He knew what it felt like to be exhausted, afraid, and surrounded by challenges. Nevertheless, he also knew that his ability to stand did not come from his own willpower but from God’s steady hand holding him up.

A Song of Love and Gratitude

Our faith entails more than rules or routines. Faith is about relationship. It is looking at God and saying, “I love You, and I need You.” When we live out of that posture of love and dependence, our burdens feel lighter, because we are no longer trying to carry them alone.

When was the last time you told God, “I love You,” without attaching it to a request? How might your day look different if you truly relied on His strength instead of pushing through on your own?

Prayer
Heavenly Father, I love You. Be my strength today in the little things and in the big challenges I face.
