A Timely Injection of Energy

He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.

Isaiah 40:29 (NLT)

I admit I am not an athlete. In primary and secondary schools, I was part of the cheering crowd. However, in my early days, I envied athletes for one thing – being the only ones who had a free supply of glucose.

My envy aside, I understood that these exhausted guys needed a dose of instant energy, hence the glucose. It reminds me that some of my secondary school colleagues would be motivated to donate bread because of the opportunity to drink Fanta – the soft drink.

In both cases, one needs a supply of instant energy after a period of gradual loss.  I compare the scenario with an upsurge of adrenaline whenever sudden danger appears.

According to Scripture, we, too, have a place where we can take spiritual glucose or Fanta for instant energy, whenever need arises. In Isaiah 40:29, we read, “He (God) gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.”

As a Christian, you will have moments of exhaustion, weakness and powerlessness. These many include incapacitating illnesses, loss of employment, collapsing of a business, divorce, loss of a loved one or loss of property.

When you have quarreled with a close friend or relative, and are no longer in talking terms, you will feel short of vitality. When your child is on illegal substances and other antisocial behaviour, your faith may plunge.

God, in His mercy, promises you that whatever the situation, you can turn to Him and receive power and strength. Are you weak? Do you feel powerless? Ask Jesus for an injection of instant energy today.

Lord Jesus, give me strength and power to face the challenges ahead of me.
