A Unique Secret to Wisdom

Daily Devotional – Thursday. August 29, 2024
Listen to counsel and receive instruction that you may be wise in your latter days.
Proverbs 19:20 (NKJV)

It might be hard to know what is really valuable in our fast-paced world when everyone has an opinion and everything to say. In today’s key passage, Solomon reveals a unique secret to wisdom that we can trust.

Actively engaging with someone else’s experience and wisdom is what listening entails. It means putting aside our egos and agendas for a little while. It urges us to be teachable, acknowledging that others can provide viewpoints that deepen our understanding and that we don’t know everything.

Listen to Counsel and Receive Instruction

Occasionally, the guidance we obtain might not align with our expectations or preferences. Nevertheless, even in these situations, there is room for improvement. Be humble when receiving criticism or advise because you know it can help you grow as a person and become wiser.

As you receive counsel, concentrate on really understanding the perspective being shared. Avoid interrupting or preparing your rebuttal while the other person is speaking. Take some time to consider their words and how they align with biblical truths.

A Unique Secret to Wisdom

After obtaining guidance or instruction, give it some serious thought. Think about how it fits within God’s Word and how you might use it in your life. This contemplation aids in incorporating the wisdom into your day-to-day choices and deeds.

Be around people whose lives reflect godly wisdom. These people could be mentors, spiritual leaders, or mature friends. Ask for their input and be open to their guidance, even when it challenges your current thinking or plans. In listening and receiving counsel lies a unique secret to wisdom.

Prayer
Dear God, please enable me to be receptive to counsel and instruction that I may gain wisdom.
