Daily Devotional – Thursday, February 23, 2023
Let each of you look out not only for his own interests but also for the interests of others.
Philippians 2:4 (NKJV)
At a car accident scene, the first responders are busy helping the survivors out of the wreckage. Mingling with them are two juveniles who are stealing the victims’ valuables. It does not matter to the young thieves that some people are dead and others are seriously injured.
Who Cares?
A few yards from them are excited, giggling girls. One of them is taking selfies with the car wreckage and rescuers in the background. She cannot wait to brag to her friends that she was an eyewitness to a fatal crash. Next to her is her social media influencer friend, reporting live from the scene. Who cares about the victims and their families?
In an affluent neighbourhood, a garbage collector instinctively knocks on the door of an unusually quiet house and saves a sickly old woman. Her children and neighbours have not checked on her for several days. As paramedics ease her into the ambulance, guilty thoughts inundate the minds of a few people.
Endemic Selfishness
Sadly, as the world becomes more connected through technology, tangible human connections are breaking apart. Social media makes us more sociable with strangers but far removed from those we live and work with. We tend to think more about ourselves and less about others, especially the less fortunate.
About two thousand years ago, Apostle Paul made a statement that appears to be more relevant today than when he wrote it. He said, “Let each of you look out not only for his own interests but also for the interests of others.” (Philippians 2:4).
An Epidemic of Egocentricism
If we heeded this counsel, the world would have less poverty, hunger, sickness, and misery. More children would be in school. Our prisons and hospitals would be less congested. There would be fewer homes for orphans and the elderly. People would be kinder and more considerate. The world would be more habitable and happier than it is today.
The world may have a dearth of egocentricity, but this does not have to be your reality. When you look around you, do you see the ‘other’ person whose interests God wants you to keep in mind? If you are living in relative comfort today, remember that God wants you to care about the needy the same way you care about your loved ones and yourself.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, help me to look out for the interests of others the same way I mind mine.

Sometimes We Humans become pre-equipped with this natural tendency to look out for our own wants. We consider them above others. But we should emulate Jesus who exemplifies how we are to live as believers, modeled humble, selfless love in everything He did. The world would truly be different if every christian take this challenge to heart.
Indeed, Doc. We must mind the welfare of others.
Like the good Samaritan in
Luke 10:33
But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,
…… The task has remained for us, doing good to others won’t cost us anything. For doing so is to imitate Our Saviour, and this will help us to win many souls and get them close to Christ. Minding of our own wellbeing can’t be helpful, mind of others too. Thank you, for all will accelerate their wealth, power, prayers, helping hand to those in problems, Be blessed.
