Are You Enjoying Freedom From Condemnation?

Daily Devotional – Tuesday, July 26, 2022
There is, therefore, now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus…
Romans 8:1 (NKJV)

A condemned prisoner is one awaiting death after sentencing. He has no hope of living again. Sadness and guilty engulf him. He regrets his action but it is too late to make amends.

Similarly, unconfessed sin burdens the mind and heart and makes one a death row convict in a spiritual sense. Guilt weigh down the mind and deprave one of joy and peace.

All Have Sinned

The Bible states that, “…all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23). Under God’s perfect law, we are condemned because, “…the wages of sin is death.” (Romans 6:23).

However, when we accept Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord, He takes our place as condemned sinners. His death on the cross is counted as our death. He frees us from condemnation.

As John states, “… God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” (John 3:17).

There is no Condemnation

In the journey of faith, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9).

With these assurances, we can confidently say, “There is, therefore, now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus; who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.” (Romans 8:1).

Why then, do we allow feelings of condemnation to bog us down after Jesus has forgiven us? Do we trust God fully? When we realize we are no longer under condemnation, we will heed Paul’s advice, “Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!” (Philippians 4:4).

Prayer
Thank You, Jesus, for freeing me from the condemnation of sin.
