For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is right and just…
Genesis 18:19 (NKJV)
In my community, the death of a childless person is the saddest one can attend. Tears flow ceaselessly. Mourners (especially the bereaved family) feel miserable because the deceased has not let any offspring behind.
The desire to bear children, give them a good life and leave them a generous inheritance is commendable. In contrast, many of us do not consider spiritual heritage as being of equal or more significance.
‘He Will Direct His Children and His Household after Him’
If we depart the world today, how many spiritual offspring will we leave behind? Will people mourn in our funerals because we did not influence any person (including biological offspring) to accept Jesus as Lord?
Consider what God said about Abraham:
“For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is right and just…” (Genesis 18:19).
Are You Spiritually Childless?
Abraham was to teach his children and household the worship of the true God. His children would pick up after him and pass on this heritage to future generations. That is why the LORD called Himself ‘the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob’.
A servant of God passed down to you the faith you profess today. God expects you to teach your biological offspring and other people the way of salvation. If you have not yet started, there is still time today.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, help me become a parent of faith to many.
