But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
1 John 1:7 (NKJV)
We frequently think of light in terms of truth, purity, and clarity. Light reveals both what requires change and the goodness and beauty of the world around us. Jesus, the real Light, entered the earth to illuminate our hearts, removing the sinful darkness and providing us with a fresh perspective on life.
We Have Fellowship…
Living in accordance with God’s truth is what it means “to walk in the light.” Living in accordance with His Word and seeking His presence is a daily decision. A dedication to truth, including truth about the world, truth about God, and truth about ourselves, is necessary to walk in the light.
John tells us that we feel communion with one another when we choose to live in the light. This decision also affects how we relate with others as we shed off works of darkness and embrace righteousness. We love and appreciate people in spite of their imperfections in a community of grace that is created by walking in the light.
Are You Walking in the Light?
Does God want you to bring anything into the light that you’re holding onto? Ask Him for the courage to walk in the light after confessing whatever sins you may have committed. Do you participate in genuine Christian fellowship? Whether in the form of prayer meetings, Bible study, or small groups, find opportunities to reflect the light of God.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please enable me to live in Your truth, walk in Your light every day, and exhibit Your holiness in my life.
