Whoever is wise will observe these things, and they will understand the loving-kindness of the LORD.
Psalms 107:43 (NKJV)
Psalms 107 celebrates God’s graciousness and the need for human beings to be grateful. The psalmist recounts how God led the Israelites through the wilderness and calls on them to give thanks to the Lord for His goodness.
Whoever is wise…
This song presents people in difficult situations (often because of defying God) who then call on God, and He saves them. God also does the impossible, like breaking the gates of cities with bronze. He provides water in the desert, and people harvest it bountifully.
The bottom line is that these works of deliverance will elicit gratitude in the hearts of human beings. The final verse of the psalm has quite a powerful message. It states, “Whoever is wise will observe these things, and they will understand the loving-kindness of the LORD.” (Psalms 107:43).
Understand the Mercy of God
The definition of wisdom in this verse is the act of pondering the goodness of the Lord in our lives and being grateful. We need to constantly observe and meditate on the interventions of God on our behalf. We must avoid being passive beneficiaries of God’s kindness.
Wisdom is being as vocal when God has answered our prayers as we were when we were pleading with Him. When we understand the loving kindness of God and appreciate it, thanksgiving will become a natural part of our lives.
Are You Wise?
Are you wise? Do you take time to reflect on how far God has carried you? Is your heart full of gratitude for what the Lord has done for you, or do you focus more on what you lack? Pause what you are doing for a moment and thank God for specific things He has done for you today.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, always remind me to ponder what you have done for me so that I may become wise.
