The Joy of Being As Carefree as a Child

Daily Devotional – Thursday, February 25, 2021

And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 18:3 (NIV)

A teacher in my church asked a group of children, “Who killed Jesus?” All the hands were up immediately. The teacher picked one little fellow. The answer was obvious, or so I thought. “Not me!” He shouted. We all burst out laughing.

I love being around children. It is fun. It is educative.

Take Dan, for example. On his first day in kindergarten, he forgot his bag at school. We laughed at him. His mother laughed, too. The little guy jumped on top of his mother’s lap and told her, “Mummy, you are my mother.” The mother kept quiet. All of us went silent. He had reminded his mother who she was to him.

When the disciples of Jesus could not agree on who was the greatest in the kingdom of heaven, Jesus placed a child before them and said, “unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 18:3).

Christ called on His disciples to adopt the attitude of a child. “Therefore, whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven,” He added, in verse 4. The Lord instructed them to learn meekness from children.

You are a child of God. Trust Him 100%. Be curious to know what your Dad has in store for you. Claim His promises persistently. Be honest in everything you do. Be creative in your work and in God’s service. Don’t forget to be carefree, because your Father owns the world.

Prayer

Abba Father, today I just want to submit myself into the warmth of your Fatherly hug.

Amen. This has reminded me that children never worry about any of their needs. After they have told the parents, they trust them to sought it out.How about we trust God and stop worrying as his children?
