Assessing the Influence of Our Words

Daily Devotional—Monday, April 7, 2025
Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.
Ephesians 4:29 (NKJV)

The power of our words is immense. We have the power to uplift or depress someone with a single sentence. In today’s key text, Paul presents an unequivocal divine directive: only say things that will help others grow.

No Corrupt Word from Your Mouth

There is more to this passage than simply refraining from foul words and rumors. It is an appeal for purposeful, uplifting communication. Paul encourages us to utilize our words as instruments for unity, healing, and support. Our voices are supposed to be distinct in a world that frequently reverberates with censure and mockery.

Consider the people you will be interacting with today, including friends, family, coworkers, and strangers. What could they possibly need to hear? Perhaps you should start telling them they can count on you, especially when they are facing challenges. Your speech can be guided by the Holy Spirit so that you may minister grace to others.

Assessing the Influence of Our Words

Our tongues become vessels of Christ’s love and His peace when we surrender them to Him. When did you last feel truly uplifted by someone’s words? Are there any speaking patterns you need to give up to God? Would someone in your life benefit from some words of support today?

Your words have a powerful influence. Let Jesus’ heart be reflected in yours. Allow the seeds of your words to sprout into the soil of another person today.

Prayer
Holy Spirit, dwell in me so that no corrupt word will proceed out of my mouth, but only what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.
