Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.
John 12:24 (NKJV)
When a loved one departs, friends and family agonize and mourn. Others choose to celebrate the departed. The bottom-line? Death is seen by many as the end of life.
According to Christ, however, His death was the preamble to eternal life and joy for humanity. While predicting His death, Jesus said, “… unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone…” (John 12:24).
For a seed to germinate, it must first rot. Perhaps this is the most unattractive version of the seed, but it is a mandatory step. Like a seed meant for germination, Christ had to die.
He further says of the seed, “…but if it dies, it produces much grain.”
Because of Christ’s crucifixion “… everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16 (NASB).
Because Christ died, you will one day meet your loved ones who died in Christ. Because the Son of God hang on the tree of Calvary, you can face death with the assurance that you will arise on the resurrection morning.
Because Christ died for your sins, by His grace and power, you can die to your sins and your sinful past.
Because Jesus died, the negative situations you face today can be the beginning of bigger and better things.
Thank God because Christ’s death was a step towards eternity and everlasting joy for all who believe in Him and obey His commandments.
Father, thank You for salvation and eternal life through the death of Jesus Christ.
Amen
