Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us…
Ephesians 3:20 (NKJV)
Although God had promised Abraham and Sarah a son, many years had passed, but the promise remained unfulfilled. Every day, Abraham watched desperately as his wife grew older and frailer. If God really wanted to bless Abraham, what was He waiting for?
Past Child-Bearing Age
At one time, the couple hatched a plan to ‘help’ God, seeing He was taking too long to act. As was the custom in those days, Sarah urged Abraham to take Hagar, their maid, as a wife in order to bear a heir. As a result, Ishmael was born.
God, though, would hear none of it. He insisted He would still give Abraham and Sarah a son. The old woman even laughed when God repeated the promise through angels who were on their way to Sodom and Gomorrah.
Exceedingly Abundantly above Human Understanding
How could a woman who had reached menopause conceive? Well, at the age of ninety years, Sarah gave birth to Isaac. Had there been television stations those days, the birth of the promised son would have been ‘Breaking News.”
Two factors came into play for this miracle to happen. Time, resources or circumstances do not limit God. What is impossible to man is possible to Him. According to Apostle Paul, God “is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.” (Ephesians 3:20).
The Unlimited God
When we reach the end of our tether and we see no hope ahead, God takes over and does the extraordinary. Only the Almighty can act in ways that are beyond human comprehension. The God who enabled a ninety year-old woman to conceive can give life to your dead dreams, plans and projects if you allow Him to.
Two, Sarah exercised faith, a critical component in the miracle process. Here is Paul again: “By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised.” (Hebrews 11:11).
Beyond Human Comprehension
God is willing and ready to perform miracles in all aspects of your life on condition that you exercise faith in Him. That which appears to be but a distant and unachievable dream is attainable to those who believe in God.
What we can achieve by combining our frailties with divine power through faith is beyond human comprehension. Today, refuse to listen to naysayers and dream killers. Rather, ask God for more faith to hold on to Him because that is your only guarantee for success.
Prayer
Almighty Father, increase my faith that I may experience Your power and providence beyond my human comprehension.
