Is there anything of which it may be said, “See, this is new”?
Ecclesiastes 1:10 (NKJV)
“Vanity of vanities,” says the Preacher; “Vanity of vanities, all is vanity.” (Ecclesiastes 1:2). It is as if the book started by stating the conclusion.
Ecclesiastes 1:2-8 portrays man’s life as being monotonous, cyclical and boring. “Is there anything of which it may be said, “See, this is new”? It has already been in ancient times before us. (Verse 10).
Take Covid-19, for example. It closely resembles the 1918 Spanish Flu. Back then, wearing of masks, observing good personal hygiene, isolation and quarantine were recommended prevention and treatment methods. Sound familiar?
Your popular fashion trends are not new. The impressive ideas in your favourite book are found in older books. Nothing is new.
Think of your daily, weekly, monthly and annual routines. You have been engaging in the same activities almost all your lifetime. This routine is boring and draining at times.
What hope do we have that this monotony can be broken? Who will ignite a spark of life, vitality and hope in our lives? Where can we find the paradigm shift we need so desperately?
Thank God that through Jesus, this monotony of life can be broken.
First, after years of misery and hopelessness, Christ interrupted the pattern of sin and misery through His death on Calvary.
Second, “…if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Third, one day soon, we will hear the proclamation, “Behold, I make all things new.” Revelation 21:5. Then we will have a new, perfect world.
Father, please interrupt the monotony of life and remind me you are in charge.
Amen, Tamu sana🙏
