Called vs. Chosen

Daily Devotional: Sunday, November 24, 2024
For many are called, but few are chosen.
Matthew 22:14 (NKJV)

Jesus wraps up the wedding feast parable in this passage. The narrative vividly depicts God’s call to humanity—His desire for a joyous reconnection with Him via Christ. The king invites a lot of people to his son’s wedding feast, but not everyone accepts. Even among those that show up, not everyone is ready, and some people refuse the invitation.

Many are Called; Few are Chosen

The difference between being “chosen” and being “called” is remarkable. God’s call is universal, extending to everyone. Being “chosen,” however, denotes a more profound reaction—a heart that submits in accordance with His will and His purpose and stays faithful.

The kingdom of God is about relationship and transformation rather than just proximity or outward appearances. In the story, the bridal garment represents Christ’s righteousness, which we must accept in humility. We must be covered by His grace to gain access to the heavenly banquet. Our own merits have no role in this regard.

Called vs. Chosen

Has your acceptance of Jesus been sincere? Have you allowed self-reliance or diversions to infiltrate? Embracing Christ’s righteousness is living according to His Word and putting your faith in His completed work on the cross, and not merely aiming for perfection.

Furthermore, many people still do not fully understand or hear God’s call. In what way can you participate in His invitation today? Determine to live as a person who is called and chosen to exalt God in everything. Always remember that it is a privilege and a responsibility to receive God’s call.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for calling me. Help me to follow You sincerely by accepting your garment of righteousness and inviting others to the kingdom.
