Christ’s Death: The Greatest Demonstration of Unconditional Love

Daily Devotional – Friday, April 15, 2022
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8 (NKJV)

“The world moves for love; it kneels before it in awe,” so said Edward Walker. These words rings true when you realize that love keeps people glued to movies, soap operas and zigzagging novels.

The best and most memorable songs revolve around romance. Love turns human beings into poets and musicians. Almost every adult has done something unusual or crazy due to love, especially the romantic type.

God Demonstrates His Own Love toward Us

However, human beings love others on condition that they will be loved back. Our love is not sacrificial. It is egocentric, always looking out for its own interest. We love those who love us and hate those who hate us.

In contrast, “…God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8). Rather than allow us to get lost eternally, Jesus chose to die on the cross of Calvary to save us.

Christ Died For the Ungodly

Christ died the death we deserved that we might live His life, which we did not deserve. He took the cross that belonged to us that we might wear the crown that belonged to Him.

As we contemplate this love and wonder how we should respond, let us ponder the first stanza of the hymn titled ‘I Gave My Life For You.”
I gave My life for thee,
My precious blood I shed,
That thou might ransomed be,
And raised up from the dead;
I gave, I gave My life for thee,
What hast thou giv’n for Me?
I gave, I gave My life for thee,
What hast thou giv’n for Me?

Prayer
Loving Jesus, because You loved and died for me, I will, by Your grace, serve You forever.
