Christ’s Recommendation Letter

For I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.

I have written countless recommendation letters, especially for young people I have worked with and supervised. My favourite concluding statement and endorsement habitually begins like this: “I can vouch for…”

Jesus’ Certificate of Character

I only use this kind of language when I know the person under discussion thoroughly. I stake my reputation by stating that the person I am recommending will not let me down if he is offered the job he has applied for.

My letter of recommendation, however, falls short when compared to Paul’s endorsement of Jesus. The apostle affirms, “I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.” (2 Timothy 1:12).

I Know Whom I Have Believed

What a powerful testimonial and certificate of character for Jesus! Paul has no doubt that Jesus is trustworthy, loving, and caring. He believed that Christ would keep His promise and grant him eternal life.

Can we unashamedly state that we know and love Jesus? Do we have the confidence to tell non-believers or doubting Christians that Jesus is loving and caring? Are we persuaded that He is faithful and that He rewards those who believe in Him?

Christ’s Recommendation Letter

Today, recall the countless times God has carried you through storms. Remember, He never abandoned you when you walked away from Him. Reminisce about His unfailing love and faithfulness. Now, write the final statement of Christ’s recommendation letter according to you.
