Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
Psalm 20:7 (NIV)
There are countless times when I have questioned my trust in God. I find this exercise painful but helpful. I can detect when I am off-track in my relationship with God, then take corrective action.
For example, sometimes ago, I realized I would become fearful and irritable when having money challenges. I did not trust God in those situations. I trusted money.
I have fought and I am still fighting other similar battles in other spheres of my life. By God’s Grace, I have triumphed often. I now know that when I trust God fully, I have peace, whatever the situation. Any other way, I lack long-lasting peace.
My situation is exemplified by Psalm 20:7, “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.” My chariot was money.
What horse are you ridding at the expense of your relationship with God? Is it your spouse, children, parent or relatives? Is your chariot your job, workmates, boss or customers?
How about political leaders, your reputation, illicit drugs, excessive luxuries and illicit relationships? Are they more precious to you than obeying God?
Climb down your high horse today. Break down all your idols and submit fully to God. Take your cross daily and follow Christ. Like the Psalmist, you can “trust in the name of the Lord our God” today. Only then, will you have genuine and lasting peace.
Prayer
Abba, Father, forgive me for trusting in my ‘chariots’ and ‘horses’ instead of You. Teach me to surrender my life to You every day.
Wonderful devotion about trust. It is the foundation of our faith. Thanks. Please allow me to use it.
Go ahead and share the message, bro. It’s all to the glory of the Almighty.
