Stop Complaining!

Daily Devotional: Sunday, February 28, 2021

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever.

 Psalm 136:1 (NIV)

Count your blessings, name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.’ If we practice the words of this hymn by Oatman Jr, we will find healing and motivation to face life’s challenges.

I love Psalm 136. It retells the history of the Israelites and identifies reasons for praising and thanking God. According to verses 1–9, God deserves adoration because of Who He is and because He is the Creator.

In verses 10–16, He is to be praised because He delivered the Israelites from Egyptian bondage with a mighty hand and led His people though the wilderness.

In verses 17–26, the Lord is worthy of praise for helping Israel conquer its enemies and settling His children in the Promised Land. He also remembers the lowly, frees them from the enemy and feeds every creature.

Psalm 136 reminds us that God deserves praise and gratitude because of His character (His love endures forever). When we narrate His goodness towards us, we remember that He is able to intervene in our lives now and in the future.

Today, take pen and paper. List all of God’s blessings in your life that you can remember. Now, list the challenges you are facing, especially the toughest ones. Do you think the God who answered you in the past cannot answer you again today?

God promises, “Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.” (Psalm 50:15, NKJV). Start keeping a record of your answered prayers. This will remind you of the God whose “love endures forever.”

Prayer

Father, today I choose to count my blessings instead of my troubles.
