Craving What Truly Satisfies

Daily Devotional – Thursday, September 25, 2025
As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby.
1 Peter 2:2 (NKJV)

Think about a newborn baby. When they are hungry, they don’t hold back. They cry with all they have got because they know milk means life, comfort, and strength. Peter uses this powerful picture to remind us that our souls need God’s Word the same way a baby needs milk. Without regular spiritual nourishment, our faith becomes weak and fragile.

As Newborn Babes

Picture a tiny sapling planted in dry soil. If no one waters it, it will wilt and die. But when it’s watered consistently, its roots go deep, its leaves stay green, and it grows strong enough to handle fierce winds. Our faith works the same way. God’s Word is the water that keeps us alive and growing.

Peter wrote these words to believers who were struggling under persecution and discouragement. He wanted them to understand that spiritual growth doesn’t just happen by accident. It is a choice we make every day to seek God, to read His Word, to pray, and to be with other believers. It means truly desiring to know Jesus more deeply and letting His truth shape our lives.

Craving What Truly Satisfies

If your heart feels dry or distant from God, don’t lose hope. He invites you to come close again. Start small: open your Bible, read a short passage, and ask the Holy Spirit to speak to you through it. Over time, your craving for Him will deepen, and your faith will become stronger and more resilient.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, stir up in me a fresh craving for Your Word. Help me to long for Your truth like a baby longs for milk. Feed my soul, grow my faith, and root me firmly in You.
