Do Not Forsake The Works Of Your Hands

Daily Devotional – Friday, August 19, 2022
The LORD will perfect that which concerns me. Your mercy, O LORD, endures forever. Do not forsake the works of Your hands.
Psalms 138:8 (NKJV)

We often associate the phrase, “work of my hands’ or ‘work of your hands’ with the blessings God bestows on our honest efforts in making a living. The Lord reminds us that our prosperity results from a combination of human and divine efforts.

Two examples of the use of this phrase are:

  1. The LORD will open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand.” (Deuteronomy 28:12).
  2. And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands for us. Yes, establish the work of our hands.” (Psalms 90:17).

We are the Works of God’s Hands

Our Creator, too, takes pride in the works of His hands. What are the works of the Lord’s hands? On the sixth day of creation, God mixed clay and water, moulded man, and breathed life into him. Literally, then, man is the work of God’s hands.

That is the thought in David’s mind when he says, “The LORD will perfect that which concerns me. Your mercy, O LORD, endures forever. Do not forsake the works of Your hands.” (Psalms 138:8).

The Lord Pities the Work of His Hands

David is confident that God will accomplish His good plans for him (David) because God completes the projects He starts. More importantly, God has a stake in our progress because we are the works of His hands.

Our heavenly Father has mercy of us because, “As a father pities his children, so the LORD pities those who fear Him. For He knows our frame. He remembers that we are dust.” (Psalms 103:13-14).

If you feel as if God has forsaken you because your plans are not succeeding, do not give up. God will never forsake you because you are the precious work of His hands. In His own wisdom and time, He will answer your prayers.

Prayer
Almighty Father, thank You because You will not forsake me – the work of Your hands.
