And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
Exodus 17:12 (NKJV)
In Exodus 17:8-16, the Amalekites are fighting the Israelites. Then this happens: “And so it was, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed” (v. 11).
Consequently, Aaron and Hur “…took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. …they supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun” (v. 12).
For Israel to win, Moses needed to raise his hands. When he became weak, he needed Aaron and Hur to support his hands. His two assistants had to support Moses if they wanted the nation to win.
The same principle of interdependence prevails today. Even if you do not know or acknowledge it, your peace, wellbeing and prosperity depends on what happens to and with other people. A good example is the physical environment we live in.
Like Aaron and Hur, practice holding up other people’s hands. Your spouse, children, family members, neighbors, classmates, workmates, leaders, orphans, widows, and so on, need your moral and material support and encouragement.
Instead of criticizing people for their mistakes always, suggest how they can improve. In the success of other people is your prosperity.
Today, identify one person who needs your prayers, encouraging words, financial support or mere presence. Give them your support. It could be their greatest need right now.
Father, reveal to me a person who needs my support today. Help me to be there for that person.
