The simple believe every word, But the prudent considers his steps well.

Proverbs 14:15 (NKJV)

A wise man once said, “Your enemy does not have to be my enemy, too.” That is why I believe there is such a thing as inherited enemies.

How quickly are we convinced to purchase a product based on an exaggerated marketing campaign? We buy what we do not know because we do not want to be left behind. Later on, we realized we did not need those items.

I have met individuals who hate people from other tribes. The hater has no idea why he hates the other group. The animosity is inherited. Our tribes do not get along, they say.

Some families do not interact. Children from both parties are taught that the others are their enemies. You cannot play with them. You cannot talk to them. Never accept food from them. Generations inherit biases whose origins they do not know.

A young lady meets a young man. They fall in love. They want to get married. Suddenly, the love goes cold. One of the parties has been told something negative about the other. There is no attempt to verify the claims.

These and similar scenarios are best addressed in Proverbs 14:15: “The simple believes every word, but the prudent considers well his steps. Were you taught that it is wrong to doubt?

This verse teaches that a degree of skepticism is good. Before you believe what others tell you, do your own research. Establish the facts. That way, you will prove you are wise. Do not use the media to promote ignorance, prejudice, and hatred.

Father, help me to always establish the facts before I draw conclusions.
