Embrace the Blessing of Work

And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance, for you serve the Lord Christ.

It is easy to lose sight of the huge blessing that work actually is in a society where the idea of work is frequently associated with negativity. God intended for us to be useful and purposeful creatures from the beginning, carrying out worthwhile work that both feeds and exalts Him.

Appreciate Labour

Nevertheless, we sometimes lose sight of the intrinsic dignity and purpose that are woven into every element of our profession, whether it’s because of the monotony of everyday chores, the pressure of deadlines, or the difficulties presented by challenging co-workers.

Paul urges us: “And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.” (Colossians 3:23-24). Whenever our goal at work is to exalt God, then every task—no matter how small—becomes an opportunity to glorify Him.

Embrace the Blessing of Work

This fundamental truth changes our attitude and gives spiritual value to even the most ordinary tasks. Serving clients, tending to patients, instructing students, or taking care of housework all turn our work into an offering, a material manifestation of our devotion to God and His kingdom.

Therefore, let us gratefully and joyfully accept the blessing of work today, understanding that by our labor, we contribute to God’s continuing process of restoration and rebirth. May we make it our goal to respect Him in whatever we do and embrace the blessing of work in whatever our hands find to do.

Dear God, today I embrace the blessing of work, however small the task I am undertaking.
