Faith in the Midst of Life’s Tempests

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Hebrews 11:1 (NKJV)

Faith is the cornerstone on which our relationship with God is built along life’s journey. Still, it is simple to declare one’s faith at peaceful, quiet moments, but to stumble during life’s storms.

Belief Amid Life’s Turbulence

Think back to Matthew 14:22–33, when Peter is described as walking on water toward Jesus. His faith enabled him to overcome the laws of nature, so long as his eyes were fixed on the Master. On the other hand, fear entered his mind and his trust faltered the instant he turned his attention to the winds and the waves. Then he cried, “Lord, save me!” Jesus instantly extended His hand and grasped him.

Like Peter, storms might encircle us in the form of monetary troubles, medical emergencies, interpersonal conflicts, or spiritual conflicts. It’s normal to feel scared and overwhelmed during these times. However, it’s during these exact moments that our faith is strengthened and polished.

Faith in the Midst of Life’s Tempests

While faith does not shield us from difficulties, it does reassure us that we are not going through them alone. Our faith calls us to put our faith in God’s steadfast love and His unbreakable promises. Knowing that He is watching out for us, it exhorts us to throw our cares upon Him (1 Peter 5:7).

Let us develop a strong faith in the midst of life’s tempests. Further, let us take solace in the veracity of God’s Word, and be encouraged by His unwavering fidelity throughout time. May our faith be a guiding light for us as we navigate life’s journey, getting us through the stormiest nights and the darkest nights.

Lord Jesus, strengthen my faith, especially in the midst of life’s tempests.
