Let your eyes look forward. Fix your gaze straight ahead.
Proverbs 4:25 (Christian Standard Bible)
How far are you with your New Year resolutions? What is your average percentage of achievement so far? Are you happy with your achievements up to this point? Or should I shut up and mind my own business?
If you are ashamed of your progress or lack thereof, you are in good company. Research demonstrates that only 10% of those who set New Year resolutions never live up to their commitments. Of those who try, only 50% give up after the first month.
Let Your Eyes Look Forward
Wishing and planning are easy tasks. Following through is another issue altogether. One of the determinants of success is focus. King Solomon urges, “Let your eyes look forward; fix your gaze straight ahead.” (Proverbs 4:25).
Fixing your gaze on the goal, like an eagle, is critical for success. Did you know that this bird can see prey from more than 3.2 kilometers away? From that distance, it targets the prey, makes a downward dash, and collects its meal in style.
The Advantage of Singlemindedness
Whether in spiritual or temporal matters, we must embrace single-mindedness. If we allow distractions to crowd our path, we will veer off the path to our goal. Attempting to complete multiple tasks simultaneously is risking failure.
Modern thieves of productivity include friends, social media, and television. The old, wily devil is a master of distraction. He is happy when we lose focus. He creates detours to take us off the right path.
Fix Your Gaze Straight Ahead
God is telling you today, “Let your eyes look forward; fix your gaze straight ahead.” You may have stopped fulfilling your New Year’s resolution, but you can make new plans today and concentrate on them.
God wants us to prosper. He provides the resources, but we must remain focused for us to attain what we plan.
Prayer
Almighty God, give me the ability to focus on my spiritual and temporal goals.
