Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?
Esther 4:14 (NKJV)
Contrary to popular opinion, the work of spreading the gospel of the kingdom of God should not be left to full-time church ministers only.
We are reminded in 1 Peter 2:9: “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” (NKJV).
Whatever your calling or occupation, God expects you to represent His kingdom in word and deed.
Joseph rose from prison to become the Prime Minister of Egypt. His excellent spirit, diligence and vision were recognized by people who did not worship Jehovah. He represented God in Pharaoh’s palace.
Daniel served under Babylonian and Medo-Persian kings. Kings and other civil servant knew that Daniel could not compromise his faith in God.
When God needed a committed leader to coordinate the rebuilding of the wall of Jerusalem, he called out Nehemiah, the king’s cupbearer. Nehemiah’s faithfulness to God was attested to by the King, who gave material support for the Jerusalem project.
These three leaders understood the principle that Mordechai taught Esther, “Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this? (Esther 4:14). God has a special reason for placing you in your current workplace, community and neighborhood.
Are you faithfully representing the kingdom of God wherever God has placed you? How can you, responsibly, use your current position or occupation to benefit the work of God?
Father, open my eyes to the opportunities I have for furthering your kingdom in the environment you have placed me.
