Get Rid of It

If your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life lame or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet, to be cast into the everlasting fire.
Matthew 18:8 (NKJV)

Despite their seeming extreme nature, Jesus’ statements in our key text convey a potent reality about the gravity of sin and the necessity of spiritual discipline. He is calling us to get rid of everything we harbor that pulls us away from Him as opposed to hurting ourselves physically. It is important to remember that sin has the power to entangle us, crowd our God from our lives, and obstruct our path to eternal life.

If Your Hand or Foot Causes You to Sin…

Even while the things that make us fall aren’t always harmful, they become problems when they become more important than our connection with God. This may be an addiction, a poisonous relationship, a habit, or even a negative way of thinking. Jesus urges us to confront these roadblocks head-on, even if doing so is challenging or painful.

Get Rid of It

What is impeding your progress in your relationship with Christ? Seek the Holy Spirit’s guidance on anything that is making you falter. It can be difficult to rid your life of sin and negative influences, yet spiritual development requires it. Ask God to help you make the correct choices. Even though it can be difficult to let go, keep in mind that God’s grace is enough. He will bridge the gap with His purpose, love, and tranquility.

Father in heaven, grant me the bravery and fortitude to get rid of whatever is preventing me from having a fruitful relationship with You.
