Go Beyond Learning

Daily Devotional – Saturday, March 23, 2024
The things which you learned and, received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.
Philippians 4:9 (NKJV)

At the end of a lesson, I always find it prudent to ask learners, “What did you learn?” I then listen keenly as they enumerate their take-home points. There is an even more important aspect of learning that I am keen on, even if I cannot get immediate results. “How will you apply what you have learned?” I ask.

That is why I identify with the Apostle Paul in His letter to the Christians in Philippi. He told them, “The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.” (Philippians 4:9).

The Philippians have learned a lot from their interaction with Paul. He has taught them by word and by example. What remains now is to transcend knowledge and embrace practice. Because Paul set a godly example, he is sure that God will bless the Philippians for imitating the apostle.

Go Beyond Learning

God expects no less of us. He loves it when we attend church, but He is even happier when we apply the teachings of the Bible to our lives. Worshipping in the temple is an important ritual, but nothing is better than demonstrating that you are the temple of the Holy Spirit.

Practical Christian living is more powerful than any sermon ever preached. The God of Peace loves to be with doers, not just hearers. Are there spiritual and temporal lessons you have received but have not applied in your life? Go beyond learning and become a doer.

Lord Jesus, empower me to go beyond learning and become a doer of Your word.
