All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.
Proverbs 14:23 (NIV)
“Before the end of the day, you will receive a financial miracle.” You must have come across such statements on social media or even in church.
There is nothing wrong with wishing yourself and others well. However, is that ‘prophecy’ really from God? If I believe this prediction, should I work or wait for its fulfilment?
God is a miracle worker, not a magician. He performs miracles where He has not provided human beings with the ability to perform a task.
For example, God provided Manna in the wilderness because His children could not produce or acquire food in that environment. However, notice that even after being given the ‘corn of heaven’, the Israelites still had to go out and gather the “angel’s food’ (Psalm 78:24–25).
So, ‘prophesying’ that people will receive some blessings without working for them is indirectly calling God a magician. Solomon reminds us that “all hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty. (Proverbs 14:23).
Instead of giving people blank predictions, tell them to rise from their couches and look for work. Better still, offer them work if you can. Let them get their hands ‘dirty’ with work. This way, they will be God’s agents for their own blessings.
God is not a magician. He blesses the work of your hands (Deuteronomy 28:12), not the idle words of your mouth. Let us stop wishful thinking and idle talk. Instead, let us embrace hard work, the kind that attracts God’s blessings.
“Do not be deceived; God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap” (Galatians 6:7, NKJV).
