God Keeps His Word

Daily Devotional – Monday, March 11, 2024
Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom and also put it in writing, saying…
Ezra 1:1 (NKJV)

Have you ever undergone severe trials and uncertainty to the point of wondering whether God keeps His word? Then you need to review a special prophecy God made concerning wayward Jews.

The Lord Stands by His Promise

In Jeremiah 25:12, God declared that His people would go into exile in Babylon for 70 years because of their rebelliousness. Further, in Jeremiah 29:10, the Lord promised to bring the people back to their land after the decreed period. Because God does not lie, seventy decades later, He caused the Persian King, Cyrus, to proclaim the return of the Jews to Jerusalem. (Read Ezra 1:1–4).

Here is another interesting detail. More than one hundred years before Cyrus was born, God had prophesied, through Prophet Isaiah, that He would raise up a man called Cyrus who would rescue the children of Jacob from Babylonian captivity (read Isaiah 44:28–45:13).

God Keeps His Word

When God decided that the Jews should go into exile, He did it out of love. He wanted them to realize their sinfulness and repent. In all their sufferings, God did not forget them. At the right time, He called His children back home.

Because God keeps His word, He has everything planned out for you. Whatever you are going through, irrespective of whether you are guilty or innocent, surrender your life to God. Ask Him to fulfil His purposes for you, then trust Him to answer your prayers in His own time. No matter how long it takes, God will always be faithful.

Prayer
Almighty Father, thank You because You keep Your mind, no matter the passage of time.
