The rich and the poor have this in common. The LORD is the maker of them all.
Proverbs 22:2 (NKJV)
According to the World Economic Forum (2021), 10% of the wealthiest people on the global earn 52% of all income. Conversely, half of the world’s population (the very poor) earn about 8% of all income.
As the inequality gap widens, so does stigma against the poor. Being needy is almost a crime in some communities. The poor are automatic suspects when a crime occurs. Even among professed Christians, the poor are often despised.
God Created the Rich and the Poor
However, those who know God are keen students of Solomon, who says, “The rich and the poor have this in common. The LORD is the maker of them all.” (Proverbs 22:2). God is the common denominator for all human beings.
God “gives you power to get wealth.” (Deuteronomy 8:18). He also says, “You have the poor with you always.” (Matthew 26:11). He gives to the rich what they may distribute to the poor. Wealth should not fill people with pride but a sense of responsibility.
Are Your Rich Towards God?
Eventually, both rich and poor leave the world as they entered it: naked and empty-handed. Death does not respect wealth. We carry no riches into the grave. Even those with large tracts of land are buried in tiny spaces.
True wealth is found in finding and obeying God. The poor with God are rich, while the rich, without God, are paupers. Our attitude towards riches and poverty reveals our attitude towards God. Are you rich toward God?
Prayer
Almighty Father, above everything, give me the genuine wealth of a productive relationship with You.
I wanna be wealthy, with the Lord on my side.
Amen, Joseph.
True,God has no favourites , the poor, the rich ,He just loves us all the same
Talking about the rich and the poor this reminds me of Christ that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.
Well-stated, Doc. God bless you.
