The LORD will open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand….
Proverbs 28:12 (NKJV)
Every believer needs to understand God’s prescription for prosperity. Satan wants us to believe that we can make it in life without God. The devil is also happy when we entertain erroneous beliefs about God and material possession.
Man’s Recommendation for Success
Erring human beings attempt to prosper by cutting corners. For example, some resort to robbing banks either violently or electronically. To such individuals, the end justifies the means. As long as they get rich, the method they use is not important.
To get wealthy, some persons resort to negative business tactics. They steal from their customers by selling sub-standard goods or exaggerating prices. Conmen and women thrive in modern society, hoping to profit from other people’s ignorance.
Shortcuts to Wealth
Another class of people opt to gamble in their quest for material riches. For example, among the youth in many countries sports betting and other forms of gambling are on the upward mend. Bettors expect to hit the jackpot one day and attain financial independence.
Still, another class of human beings attempt to bribe God to bless them by dedicating itself fully to prayers while neglecting labour. As long as they have faith in God, they believe He will perform miracle and provide their daily needs and wealth.
God Will Bless the Work of Your Hand
These and other approaches contradict God’s recommended method of becoming wealthy. Through Moses, God laid down his prescription for success in Deuteronomy 28. It is clear and easy to understand.
Here is is: “The LORD will open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. You shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow.” (Deuteronomy 28:12).
Success Through Labour
Notice the steps. God gives rain in due season. Man tills the land and sows the seed. God blesses the work of man’s hand by providing an atmosphere conducive for plant growth. Eventually, man harvests. He has enough for his needs and for lending to others.
Is there a shortcut to blessings? No. Does God entertain laziness and presumption? No. Instead, God blesses the work of our hands. In essence, after giving us life, healthy, talents, a human support system and favourable environmental conditions, He expects us to utilize these blessings to prosper.
God’s Prescription for Prosperity
Now that you know God’s prescription for prosperity is to work with your hands in whatever area He has placed you in, how will you cooperate with Him moving forward? How will this knowledge change your attitude towards, God, work and wealth?
Prayer
Dear God, you prescription for prosperity is that I take advantage of the resources You have provided, and my talents, and work with my hands. Bless the works of my hands as I venture out today.
