I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit…
Isaiah 57:15 (ESV)
For many of us, life revolves around home. Home is where we are likely to find unconditional love and acceptance. Here, the heart feels comfortable and happy.
So important is home that some people have two or more dwellings. God, too, has two homes, both of which have implications for eternity.
In Isaiah 57:15, God’s first home is called heaven. He says, “I dwell in the high and holy place…” (See Deuteronomy 28:15 also). We read in John 14:1-4, that one day, God’s faithful and obedient children will join Him in the heavenly mansions that He has built for them.
God’s second home is closer to you than the first one. He dwells “with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit… (Isaiah 57:15). The broken heart; the one that acknowledges its helplessness and submits to Christ, is the other place God lovingly calls home.
In Psalm 51:17, we read, “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise (ESV). When you renounce self and surrender your thoughts, emotions, affections and behaviour to God, He makes your heart His home.
Immanuel (God is with us) wants to place His throne in your mind. Jesus wants to be your Lord and King. The only reason He may not do this is cherished and unconfessed sin.
Do you want Christ to inhabit your heart today? “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9 (ESV).
