Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed. Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning. Great is Your faithfulness.
Lamentations 3:22-23 (NKJV
Whenever God’s thoughts of God’s love overwhelm me, I love singing ‘Great Is Thy Faithfulness’. One thing about the composer (Thomas Chisholm) though, is that his life was far from pleasant at the time of penning the lyrics.
He made the following statement, years after writing the lyrics:
“My income has not been large at any time due to impaired health in the earlier years which has followed me on until now. Although I must not fail to record here the unfailing faithfulness of a covenant keeping God and that He has given me many wonderful displays of His providing care, for which I am filled with astonishing gratefulness.”
Through the LORD’s Mercies We Are Not Consumed
Chisholm had financial and health challenges but He chose to celebrate the daily revelations of God’s presence and providence. Instead of focusing on the negatives, the great songwriter rejoiced over God’s unfailing mercies and faithfulness.
When I reflect on my many failings and contrast them with God’s immense love, I can say with Prophet Jeremiah and Chisholm, “Through the LORD’s mercies I am not consumed. Because His compassions fail not.” (Lamentations 3:22).
“Great is Your Faithfulness”
In addition, I experience daily miracles of life, health, family, employment, friends, church and many others. I don’t take these blessings for granted because I don’t deserve any of them.
Through your good and bad times, have you realized that God’s mercy and compassions “are new every morning?” If you have been an underserving beneficiary of God’s blessings countless times, shout with confidence and awe, “Great is Your faithfulness!”
Prayer
Loving Father, today I just want to celebrate Your mercy and compassions. Great is Your faithfulness, My Lord and Father!
