Be very careful, then, how you live —not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.
Ephesians 5:15-16 (NIV)
The word ‘regret’ is associated with missed or unutilized opportunities. Some chances, once wasted, never come back. That is why you need to maximize on every God-given opening.
In Ephesians 5:15, God instructs: “Be very careful, then, how you live —not as unwise but as wise”. Scripture is emphatic that we must apply wisdom in life. This is especially important when it comes to opportunities.
We are counseled to make “the most of every opportunity” (Verse 16). We must recognize and utilize chances that God brings our way. The best way to live is to apply wisdom in harnessing the openings we get.
In Genesis 1, Adam was created to rule over and subdue (verses 26 and 28) the earth. Man was also “to work” and “take care of” Eden (Genesis 2:15). God created a perfect earth, but He expected man to improve on it, like a co-creator.
God gives you numerous opportunities to start and improve your life. Employment, businesses, studies, relationships and leadership positions are good examples. Increase and expand them.
In Matthew 25:14-30, those who multiplied the talents given to them were commended and rewarded. Whatever God places on your hands, make the most of it. Invest your time, read, consult, pray and work. You will prosper.
What opportunity or talent do you need to “make the most of” of today? Are there areas in your life that require you to live ‘very carefully’ as a wise person?
