Then the LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?”
Job 1:8 (NKJV)
A managerial position had opened up. My employer was considering promoting an individual I was supervising. I was the one to make the final decision. My employer said he would hold me personally responsible if this person underperformed.
Well, I recommended the individual without hesitation. I had interacted with him long and sufficiently enough to know his ability and attitude. He proved I was right by fitting perfectly into the position and performing exemplarily.
Have You Considered My Servant Job?
This experience reminds me of a time when God made a similar recommendation on Job. Unlike in my situation, no one asked God to vouch for Job. The Almighty was so proud and confident of Job that he brought the issue before Satan.
God asked the enemy, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?” (Job 1:8). Job exemplified righteousness, the result of human-divine cooperation.
Not By Might nor By Power, but By My Spirit
When I reflect on God’s description of Job, I ask myself whether God can describe me using the same words. Can Jesus boast about how well I have cooperated with Him to the point of undergoing godly character transformation?
I realize I do not measure up to the standard set by Job. I go down on my knees and ask Jesus for more grace, faith, courage and perseverance. I am encouraged to hear God say He will transform me “Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit.” (Zechariah 4:6).
Prayer
Lord Jesus, please continue with the process of transforming me into a servant You are proud of.
Amen!
Satan considers the Saints of God.
Like Job standing out and true may God help me by His might and power to exhibit the same exemplary faith and Righteousness in Him.
Well-said, Doc. We, too, by the grace of God, can become heroes of faith, like Job.
