Hope in God Like Resurrection Plants Do

Daily Devotional – Friday, December 1, 2023
Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him, for the help of His countenance.
Psalms 42:5 (NKJV)

Resurrection plants appear like dried-out balls of twigs in the desert. String winds carry these balls away for long distances. Strangely enough, these plants can remain dormant for years, appearing to have died, but that is not the end of their story.

When Plants Come Back to Life

When they finally come in touch with water, irrespective of how many years have passed, resurrection plants live up to their name. They suddenly spring to life. They unfurl their dry leaves as if by magic. Moreover, their buried seeds germinate from the desert soil in a matter of hours and turn the desert green.

In a few weeks, they flower and develop seeds before the sun scorches them again into presumed oblivion. Such is the magic of these plants. You can’t write them off. Even when they appear dead, there is still life in them. All they require is water, and they will obliterate years of hopelessness and assumed death.

Hope in God Like Resurrection Plants Do

The Sons of Korah envisioned the believer as being like the resurrection plant. They wrote, “Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him, for the help of His countenance.” (Psalms 42:5). Fierce trials may assail a man, but if he puts his trust in God, there is hope.

Moreover, the man of God may look hopeless in material and spiritual aspects, but when God decrees it, the man’s transformation will be like rising from the dead. Whenever you feel hopeless and your dreams appear to be dead, remember the resurrection plants. When God sends His rain of blessings, it will not matter how long you have suffered. You will grow again. Hope in God, like resurrection plants do.

Prayer
Dear God, I wait for You like resurrection plants wait for water despite the passage of time.
