How Abel’s Voice Continues to Speak

By faith, Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts, and through it, he, being dead, still speaks.

Abel’s life is used throughout Scripture as an enduring example of the strength of sincere devotion and obedience to God. Even though he didn’t spend much time on Earth, his legacy has inspired us to live lives that please our Creator throughout the years.

An Incessant Call to True Worship

When it came time to present offerings to the Lord, Abel’s regard and faith were abundant. He brought the best parts of his flock and offered them to God in a real and heartfelt way. This demonstration of faith set Abel’s contribution apart from his sibling Cain’s.

Although Cain put effort into his giving, it lacked the sincere trust and obedience that marked Abel’s tribute. God, therefore, accepted Abel’s contribution favorably and praised him for his righteousness.

How Abel’s Voice Continues to Speak

Abel’s life is a powerful reminder that genuine worship originates in a heart that is given over to God in trust and obedience, rather than being limited to ceremonial or meaningless rituals. Abel showed that he trusted in God’s supply and that he was prepared to put God’s name above everything else by offering the best of his flock.

Abel’s voice continues to speak to us, reminding us to consider our own motives and emotions in worship. Are we sincerely and devotedly giving God our lives, trying to honor Him in whatever we do? Or are we just going through the motions, paying lip service instead of having true faith and following through?
