How God Sanctifies Believers

Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.
John 17:17 (NKJV)

Jesus raised His followers before the Father in His last prayer before the crucifixion, pleading for their sanctification via the application of God’s Word. God’s truth is transformative, not merely informational, as our guiding scripture tells us. We must thus consistently study and abide by God’s word.

Sanctify Them by Your Truth

Sanctification is the state of being set apart for God’s purposes and rendered holy by His act of refinement. This is something God works in us as we allow His word to influence our thoughts. Words and actions. We cannot attain sanctification by our own efforts.

God speaks to our consciences when we meditate on scripture. We become more and more like Christ the more we surround ourselves with Scripture. We are cleansed, renewed, and strengthened by his truth, which enables us to walk in righteousness and withstand the devil’s lies.

How God Sanctifies Believers

The Bible continues to be our solid basis in a world full of lies and shifting morals. It guides us into a closer relationship with the Lord, corrects us when we go off course, and uplifts us when we are tired. It teaches us about God’s character, His will for our lives, and our calling.

How frequently do you spend time in God’s sanctifying word? Pray today as Jesus did, asking God to sanctify you through His truth. Cherish His Word, letting it mold your hearts, direct your behavior, and bring you closer to Him every day.

Heavenly Father, I am grateful for Your word, which sanctifies and changes me. May I become like Jesus even as I live up to the high calling You have graciously extended to me.
