And Elijah came near to all the people and said, “How long will you go limping between two different opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him”
1 Kings 18:21 (ESV)
It is saddening to see countless professed Christians praising God during the day but consulting witches at night. There are also ‘acceptable’ open forms of this evil such as the occult, magic, superstition and horoscopes.
While God has given us clear boundaries between good and bad and truth and lies, we are tempted to cling to the past while clutching the present. Satan tempts us to believe there is no harm in mixing water and wine.
During the reign of King Ahab and his evil wife, Jezebel, Israel rebelled against God. The Israelites worshipped Baal and other false gods. Through the prophet, God had announced that there would be a drought for three and a half years.
When the time came for God to end the drought, He sent the prophet to King Ahab and the Israelites with an important message. Elijah asked, “How long will you go limping between two different opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him.” (1 Kings 18:21).
God hates indecisiveness. James teaches that double-minded people are unstable and should not expect God to answer their prayers (James 1:6-8).
If we have decided to follow Jesus, we must trust Him fully. There are no two ways. Either we are with Jesus or with the enemy. God wants us to belong to Him 100%.
How long will you go limping between two different opinions?
