How to Acquire a Clean Heart

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Psalms 51:10 (NKJV)

Jesus taught that unclean thoughts lead to impure words. Just like a good tree brings forth good fruit and vice versa, a good heart produces words and actions that please God. In essence, Christians must strive to have clean hearts.

King David understood this concept too well after he had committed adultery with Bathsheba and killed her husband, Uriah. In his repentance prayer, which is recorded in Psalms 51, David pleaded with God, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” (verse 10).

Create in Me a Pure Heart

How does one’s heart become impure? For David, it was something akin to watching pornography, listen to music with lewd lyrics, reading magazines with content that arouses sexual thoughts, watching sexually-explicit movies and so on.

We must plead with God like the repentant monarch Did. God desires purity of thoughts and motives. When we allow the Holy Spirit to imbue our hearts, our speech and conduct will attest that God is in us.

How to Acquire a Clean Heart

As Jesus asserted, the pure in heart shall see God. As Christians, we must desire to have clean hearts. Only then can we acquire the power to escape the traps that Satan places on our path to heaven. The pure-hearted Christian is a true ambassador of heaven on earth.

If you are fighting impure thoughts, God is ready to help you overcome this obstacle. Ask Him for a pure heart. Moreover, make a deliberate decision to stop watching or listening to content that is ungodly. That is how you can obtain a pure heart.
