You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.
Isaiah 26:3 (NKJV)
Today’s key text presents a significant promise: perfect peace. This is a significant offer in a society that seems more unstable than ever, where bad news frequently outweighs good news, and worry seems to be a permanent companion. What we need is not fleeting peace nor situational peace, but a profound, enduring, unflinching serenity that only comes from trusting in God.
Peace Upon Peace
This divine promise describes a particular type of person: someone with a firm, unwavering, and unmoving mind. However, what gives them such peace of mind? It is not perfect self-discipline or inner power but faith in God.
Peace and trust are directly related to each other. We feel more at peace the more we trust that God is in charge. Trust serves as a reminder that God is constant despite changes in our surroundings. He is good, sovereign, and faithful.
How to Acquire Perfect Peace
In Hebrew, “perfect peace” literally means peace upon peace. For those who believe in God, it seems as though He is filling their hearts with peace after peace. It means that God is present at the center of distress, but it does not mean that there is no trouble.
Do you desire perfect peace? Is your focus on God’s promises or your fears? What are you clinging to that prevents you from being at complete peace? What steps can you take now to realign your faith in God? Start by surrendering your life to God today.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, teach me to trust in you fully that I may experience perfect peace in the midst of an unstable world.
