How to Avoid Drifting from God

Daily Devotional – Tuesday, March 11, 2025
Therefore, we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away.
Hebrews 2:1 (NKJV)

The Christian life is frequently likened to a journey, where individuals are either progressing toward Christ or gradually moving away from Him. Today’s key text serves as both a serious admonition and a source of encouragement, prompting us to steadfastly cling to the truth we have embraced in Christ.

Take Heed

The expression “give the more earnest heed” implies a sense of purpose. Similar to how a ship requires an anchor to remain stable amidst the currents, we must firmly grasp God’s Word to prevent ourselves from straying. Spiritual drift seldom occurs abruptly; rather, it unfolds gradually as distractions, complacency, or worldly preoccupations lead us away from our primary devotion—Jesus.

To prevent drifting, it is essential to remain grounded in the truth. This involves dedicating time to prayer, engaging in the study of Scripture, and maintaining fellowship with fellow believers. Additionally, it requires vigilance in protecting our hearts from influences that could divert us from Christ.

How to Avoid Drifting from God

Are you diligently focusing on the teachings of Scripture, or are distractions leading you away? It is essential to prioritize Bible reading and prayer each day. Additionally, engage with fellow believers who can inspire and challenge you in your spiritual journey.

Let today’s central message serve as a reminder for us to remain vigilant and purposeful in our faith, ensuring that we maintain our focus on Jesus, the originator and finisher of our faith.

Prayer
Almighty God, I am grateful for Your Word, which serves as our guide and foundation. Empower me to remain steadfast in Your truth and not straying from Your path. Instill in me a heart that yearns for Your presence each day.
