How to Bring Down Strongholds

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds.
2 Corinthians 10:4 (NKJV)

Our decision to follow Jesus makes us soldiers by default. However, our armaments are spiritual in nature, in contrast to traditional human armies that employ guns, battle tanks, and other equipment. God gives us the strength to resist and triumph over the strongholds of the devil in our lives.

Spiritual Weapons

Paul reminds us that we can only prevail in spiritual combat by relying on heavenly help. In spiritual matters, human endeavor, intelligence, or wealth are insufficient to achieve success. Rather, we must depend on the tools that God has given us—prayer, His Word, trust, and the Holy Spirit’s strength.

This verse’s reference to “strongholds” refers to anything that stands in opposition to God’s truth, including sin, fear, incorrect thinking, and even lies that the enemy has ingrained in our minds. However, God’s word is able to dispel all falsehoods. We can access His power and ask Him to step in and help us through our difficulties when we pray.

How to Bring Down Strongholds

Consider any areas in your life that you feel are strongholds of the evil one. Are there any worries or ideas that are at odds with the truth of God? Let Him have them. Your victory in Christ should motivate you in your spiritual warfare.

Furthermore, seek the ability to control every thought and bring your thoughts into line with His truth. Pray for God to deepen your faith and to use His power to destroy all of the evil strongholds in your life.

Father in heaven, thank You for providing me with spiritual weapons to bring down the devil’s strongholds. Strengthen my faith and empower me to gain the victory You have already won.
