How to Build Deep, Genuine Relationships

Having many things to write to you, I did not wish to do so with paper and ink; but I hope to come to you and speak face to face, that our joy may be full.

In our key text, while the Apostle John stresses the importance of written communication, he emphasizes that sincere connections are the source of true happiness. This verse asks us to reflect on the importance of in-person relationships in our own lives as well as the happiness that comes from genuine community.

Face-to-Face Communication

John’s desire to be among his readers serves as an example of what Christian fellowship is all about. We occasionally underestimate the value of just being there with one another. Even though emails, texts, and letters are helpful, they will never truly convey the depth of connection that develops when we spend time and space together.

In face-to-face contact, John says, joy is complete. This serves as a reminder of how closely our relationships with other people and our joy as Christians are related. Joy fills our hearts when we get together as a community to worship, encourage, and share our lives.

How to Build Deep, Genuine Relationships

Make a point of spending time together, whether it be over a meal, in prayer, or just chatting. Spend time with your loved ones, friends, and other believers. Distractions should be put away so that you can interact with others in your immediate vicinity. Actively listen and communicate honestly. Make an effort to help someone who might be feeling alone. That way, you will build deep, genuine relationships.

Thank you, Heavenly Father, for giving us relationships and a sense of community. Help me to create profound and sincere connections.
