He pulled me out of a dangerous pit, out of the deadly quicksand. He set me safely on a rock and made me secure.
Psalm 40:22 (Good News Translation)
According to Merriam- Webster dictionary, Quicksand is, “sand readily yielding to pressure, especially a deep mass of loose sand mixed with water into which heavy objects readily sink.”
Eaglecreek.com advises that if you find yourself in quicksand, you must be careful not to worsen your situation. One strategy is to get rid of excess weight, including your backpack and shoes. The lighter you are, the easier it becomes to get out of quicksand.
Be Patient
You can also take several steps backwards towards solid ground, where you stood before. Also, ensure your head and arms are above the watery sand. Further, if possible, reach out and grab tree branches or other supportive materials within your environment.
Psychologically, you must be patient because the escape process may take hours, depending on the depth to which you have sunk. Attempting to free yourself by massive force may trap you further and complicate your escape.
Spiritual Quicksand
Human life is at times similar to being trapped in quicksand. You feel desperate because you cannot save yourself. The more you try to free yourself, the more you get trapped. You have to rely on a force bigger than you to be free. Patience is critical in this situation.
Sin and some life struggles are forms of quicksand. If you feel alone, trapped and in need of extraordinary assistance to overcome your situation, you are not alone. David had a similar experience. He says, “I waited patiently for the LORD; and He inclined to me, and heard my cry.” (Psalms 40:1, NKJV).
He Pulled Me Out of a Dangerous Pit
Why did David make this statement? “He pulled me out of a dangerous pit, out of the deadly quicksand. He set me safely on a rock and made me secure.” (Verse 2, Good News Translation). David was trapped and sinking in spiritual quicksand. He waited patiently and God rescued Him.
You may be in a quicksand situation because of your wrong decisions and behaviour or the actions of other people. There is good news, though. You do not have to remain in your quagmire. If you call on God today, He will rescue you. He will set you on a secure Rock – Jesus Christ.
You futile methods are making your situation worse. Be patient as the Lord puts in place your rescue mission. Surrender yourself to Him. Soon, you will rescued. You will rejoice like David in Psalms 40:3.
Prayer
Father, give me faith and patience to wait until you rescue me from my quicksand situation.
