So, then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Romans 10:17 (NKJV)
One essential element of Christianity is faith. Jesus once asked, “Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8). So how can we develop our faith? Faith is a gift that develops as we interact with God’s Word; it is not something we develop on our own. Today’s key text serves as a reminder that hearing the gospel of Christ is what strengthens and births faith.
Faith Cones by Hearing
In a world full of distractions, news, and opinions, our beliefs and behavior are influenced by what we listen to. Absorbing negativity, doubt, and fear continually can erode our faith. Nevertheless, our faith is reinforced and nourished during the precious moments when we pore over God’s word, when we listen to sermons, and when we interact with scripture through other forms of worship.
The Word of God is dynamic and potent. It displays His unwavering truth, His nature, and His promises. Moreover, it changes our hearts, bringing us into line with His plan and strengthening our faith in Him, whether we hear it through personal or group Bible studies or even presentations in religious meetings.
How to Grow Your Faith
Do you suffer from uncertainty or doubt? Develop the practice of absorbing God’s Word into your heart and thoughts. Let it settle in your soul, listen to it, and think about it. Knowing that God keeps His promises can help you walk with more confidence as your faith deepens.
Prayer
Almighty God, I appreciate your gift of faith. Please help me to intentionally listen to Your Word every day so that it may mold my ideas, fortify my heart, direct my actions, and grow my faith.
