How to Make a Difference

Daily Devotional – Friday, July 4, 2025
Then the men of the city said to Elisha, “Please notice, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord sees; but the water is bad, and the ground barren.”
2 Kings 2:19 (NKJV)

In our fast-paced world, people we meet and interact with sometimes hide their suffering behind masks of smiles and hollow laughter. To such people and their surroundings, Christians are to make a difference by becoming healing agents.

But the Water Was Bad

When Elisha visited Jericho, the city was attractive to the eye, but its water was bad and the land was unproductive. In other words, from the outside, Jericho was a haven, but inside it was pain and frustration.

Thankfully, Elisha made a significant positive impact on the city and its inhabitants. He asked for a new bowl, put salt in it, and cast it at the source of Jericho’s water, and the water and the land got healed. Despondency turned into joy on that day.

How to Make a Difference

Jesus calls us the salt of the world, which means we are to be agents of divine purity and healing. Like Elisha, bring positive change to our families, churches, and communities. Let outside appearance not fool you. Behind beautiful smiles may be despondent hearts that need healing, and God expects you to minister to them.

Look around you today and realize that people around you are carrying burdens, many of which they don’t utter. Your kindness, words of encouragement, and messages of hope may be the catalysts that will give someone a reason to live and to follow Jesus. Be the difference.

Prayer
Almighty God, in a world where people hide pain behind smiles, teach me to minister love, purity, and kindness, hence making a difference.
