How to Overcome Spiritual Stunted Growth

Daily Devotional – Sunday, December 3, 2023
…but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
2 Peter 3:18 (NKJV)

Imagine giving your child the most nutritious food, but the little one does not grow! You ensure she gets the best medication, a comfortable home, and much love, but she still cannot talk or walk despite the passage of time.

Grow in Grace

Definitely, you will seek the services of specialists to establish the cause of the anomaly. You will want to know whether there is any essential nutrient you did not give your little girl. Assuming the doctor agrees that you did your best and, therefore, he cannot explain your child’s stagnation, how will you react?

Your response mirrors what God feels when He looks at some of His children. According to the Apostle Peter, God’s “divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness.” (2 Peter 1:3). Consequently, God is right to expect us to experience spiritual growth.

Do Not Be Spiritual Babes

The apostle adds, “You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked; but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” (2 Peter 3:17–18).

As we continue to interact with Christ, our faith will grow. We will gradually overcome our sinful tendencies with the power of the indwelling Christ. Our knowledge of the word of God and the truth as it is in God will increase. That way, we will not be tossed to and from by every wind of doctrine.

How to Overcome Spiritual Stunted Growth

Imagine how God feels when we remain spiritual dwarfs despite all He has provided for us to grow. To overcome spiritual and stunted growth and start rising again, revive your relationship with God. Feed on the word of God. Make prayer a priority and a necessity. Live by the word of God.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, revive me so that I may grow in grace and knowledge of your will.
