How to Scale a Wall

Daily Devotional – Thursday, September 19, 2024
With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall.
Psalms 18:29 (NIV)

After witnessing God’s power and deliverance, King David penned the powerful Psalms 18:29. This passage succinctly expresses the essence of spiritual support and how God’s might may change one’s own limits into tremendous potential. It reveals that no wall is so high that we cannot scale it with God’s strength.

I Can Advance Against a Troop

David uses the image of a troop—a disciplined group ready for combat—to represent the major challenges we face in life. David doesn’t hesitate to ask for assistance, though. He realizes that the obstacles would be overwhelming without God’s help.

Furthermore, scaling a wall is a metaphor for getting past seemingly insurmountable boundaries and obstacles. When God is his assistance, no wall is too high for David. His faith in the omnipotence of God reduces a formidable barrier to the status of a simple roadblock.

How to Scale a Wall

We all face walls and troops in our own lives. They include personal failings, health problems, relationship problems, or financial difficulties. Think back to the times when God has come through for you and have faith that He will do the same for you now.

Acknowledge the barriers in your existence and the soldiers who aim to obstruct your advancement today. Trust that God is capable of doing far more than we can ask or imagine. Put your faith in the God who makes it possible for you to go forward, whether you are scaling a real wall or getting beyond symbolic obstacles.

Prayer
Dear God, thank You because by Your strength I can scale the ‘walls’ and face the ‘troops’ of my life.
